T hrough high-quality education, athletics, the arts, and comprehensive social services, Berston remains responsive to and inclusive of the community it serves. Berston’s programming and partnerships allow community members to participate in a variety of life-enriching activities including:

  • Sports: Golden Gloves Boxing Program / F.W.C. Boxing Program; Berston Inner City Softball League; Recreational and Intramural Softball; Basketball League; Flint City Handball Club; Flint South Soccer Club; and 475 Elite Youth Tackle Football
  • Fitness: Sensational Seniors (Enhanced Fitness); Weight Room; Double-Dutch Jump Rope; LEVELS Step Fitness; and Yoga; Acupuncture; and Tai Chi
  • Community: Kentakee Bicycle Club; 100K Ideas; The Lamplighters Mentoring Program; The Leading Ladies Mentoring Program; and Success Center
  • Creative Arts: Creative Expressions Dance Studio; The Chosen Few Arts Council; and Smooth Steppers Senior Line Dancing

Bryant “BB” Nolden –

A Bright Legacy of Community.

I n 2023, Berston Field House will be celebrating its 100th anniversary. An incredible achievement that would not have been possible without the dedication of the late Bryant “BB” Nolden. A leader to not only our organization, but to the entire community. His kindness, generosity, and commitment to supporting the needs of Flint will truly be missed. 

Without BB, Berston Field House would not be here today due to lack of City funding. Fortunately, he stepped in asking Mayor Dayne Walling for the keys to the building and continued to care for this community treasure. In 2014, Friends of Berston was created, offering over 14 programs featuring athletics, arts, and cultural enrichment. 

BB worked tirelessly to ensure Berston Field House had a future. When envisioning the next version of Berston, his goal was to create a place for everyone, filling the gaps in the community and inspiring individuals to become their best. A goal that we remain dedicated and determined to, ensuring BB’s dreams for Berston Field House.
